Upcoming Programs

Star Party

April 6, 8 -11 p.m.  REGISTER

Our beautiful night sky is a disappearing resource!  Find out why at our Magic Planet exhibit and then head outside to view the spring constellations and the one-day-old moon, along with varying star clusters and nebulae. Perhaps Mars will even put in an appearance above our western tree line! A telescope station and binocular station will be provided, family-friendly activities will be available near the viewing area, and the exhibit hall will be open.

Guests are welcome to bring lawn/camp chairs or waterproof seating, as well as snacks or a picnic to enjoy at designated areas. Long-pants and closed-toed shoes highly recommended. Children ages 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Please be advised that unhampered night vision is critical for everyone’s enjoyment of a night-sky event. This means that headlamps are not permitted and that flashlights should be covered with red cellophane. (We’ll have the cellophane and rubber bands available).

$19/non-member; $16/Heard Museum Members*. Pre-registration is required. Click here to register.

Magical Moth Night

Jul 27th,  8:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. REGISTER

Experience the magic of moths. These insects are often thought of as being less interesting than their popular lepidopteran cousins, butterflies. But on this night, we’ll dispel this myth and show you the fascinating, flitting world of these winged beauties. Not only are they important pollinators, but they are also excellent indicators of the health of their natural environments.

Magical Moth Night will include an insightful talk about these amazing creatures. After the talk, our trail guides will lead you into the sanctuary to experience the Heard’s nature at night. Your guided hike will end at one of the observation stations, where you’ll be able to study moths firsthand through the use of non-lethal catch and release methods. The diversity of what you will find may come as surprise!

This event will also feature our new 4-foot diameter Magic Planet digital global display as it illustrates the night sky in a whole new way. Family-friendly activities, such as face/arm painting and exhibit hall admission, will be included. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks or picnic to enjoy at designated areas during the event.

$19/non-member; $16/Heard Museum Members* (Age 3 years through adult). Pre-registration is required for this event. Click here to register.

Closed toed shoes, long pants, and bug spray are recommended. Participants will be outdoors for at least an hour. Children ages 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

*Please note that the reciprocal admission agreement (click here for guidelines) that the Heard has with Perot Museum, Fort Worth Museum of Nature & Science and ASTC Passport Program participants does not apply to education programs or special events.
